Deep Root Zone Shade Tree Fertilization

Healthy Tree

Paul’s Lawn Care offers specialized root zone fertilizer treatments for shade trees. There is a common misconception that regular lawn fertilization provides sufficient nutrients to shade trees throughout the lawn area. The thinking is that the fertilizer that is applied to the lawn will move downward through the soil and reach the tree’s roots – this is incorrect. Granular and liquid lawn fertilizers are applied in a manner that will allow the nutrients to travel just a few inches downward into the soil – deep enough to benefit the grass root system, but not deep enough to benefit a tree root system, which is much deeper.

That is why we fertilize trees using a root zone soil injection with liquid fertilizer. Our soil probe injectors are designed to penetrate deeper into the soil by using a pressure that is high enough to allow the fertilizer to penetrate down deep enough into the soil and provide nutrients to your tree’s roots. We also use a fertilizer that is specially designed for shade trees, rather than for grass or some other plant species.

Using a root zone injection has been proven by studies to be the most effective method for fertilizing shade trees – more effective than foliar sprays (and less messy), soil drenches, and much more effective than surface fertilization. This service is performed once per year. If you think that your shade trees are struggling and could use some fertilization – call Paul’s Lawn Care today!
